    Global Product Energy Monitoring

Moving forward all new Insteon products should incorporate energy monitoring features which can be polled from any controller. These new device systems should strive to meet the lowest power consumption ratings and lead the market. They should all go into a low standby / hibernate state to conserve power until they receive a signal / physically be used. These devices should also have at least 1000 volt surge protection, line filtering.

To be accurate in reporting the watts / KWH consumed the device must have the ability to fine tune and track the line voltage. Other features are having the ability to count how long something has been turned on, and the number of on-off cycles.

When a device has been defined with a KWH value this node should be able to broadcast this threshold as being met. Incorporating all of the above would make a simple switch a more powerful energy data logger which no one has yet released to market.

Lead the market and customers will follow . . .
