I'm looking to replace a 3 way setup with insteon switches and I want to include a dimmer. Assuming the D is located in the line box can the S control the dim level?

Any controller acts in the same manner as the responder. A dimmer controller can only turn an On/Off module responder on or off. An On/Off Module controller can brighten and dim a dimmer responder.
