Can a 6-button keypad be installed in place of an existing 3-way switch or does it have t be a single switch?

Separate the black wires and cap them with wire nuts. If your switch's wires do not match the diagram, consult the additional wiring diagrams. www.bklinkglobal.com

If you want both switches to be in use.
Both have to be Insteon. One could be a SwithLinc Dimmer. KPL not needed in both locations. Unless you want the other buttons to control other modules. Cross linked. May need rewiring so both have Line and Neutral on them. With travelers used for different functions.
One you cap off the unused Load connection. The other connected to the Load.
If you do not want both in use. You can wire around the unused manual switch so only the KPL is in the circuit.
