    Changed PW: Can't log in

I changed the password on my camera; the software did not provide a pw confirmation field so as to eliminate potential fat-fingering. Instead, once I changed the pw, it sent me right to the login screen. Now I can't login using the default <blank> password, nor the new pw I chose.

    What's the deal?

OK, I've learned how to reset the camera and regain access. Whoop-dee-doo. The system didn't like the password I chose, and all it consisted of was twelve alphanumeric characters. Nowhere was there an indication that the password was too long, which is apparently the case. An eight-character alphanumeric password works fine.

I've worked in software industry for over 25 years and have to report that this user interface is lacking. For starters, there isn't any instruction in the user manual nor in the admin dialog box pertaining to what is an acceptable password. Second, there is not an additional field to confirm the new password so as to eliminate fat-fingering, etc. (This is a standard adopted most everywhere else except here, it appears).

Elsewhere in the dialog boxes, there is occurrence of "it's" that should be "its" (the first is a contraction for "it is," whereas the latter is a possessive). If Insteon has a technical writer on staff, he/she is a very poor one. More likely, this job was delegated to an engineer who has no business finalizing dialog box content.

      Which specific camera? Which firmware?

It could be someone without a strong command of English-in which case, I agree, they shouldn't be writing manuals, or it could be a typo due to habit
Message from Forum Admin: stusviews passed away in April 2018. Stu was a huge fan of Insteon and a huge presence on both the Smarthome and Insteon forums, helping thousands of us along the way (he had nearly 20,000 posts to his name). We thank him for his contributions, dedication, and passion for making the Smart Home a reality. He will truly be missed.
