    Detect if dryer is on

I have a special fan on a wired-in insteon switch. I want to turn this on when anyone uses the dryer (electric / 220v). Is this possible?

You can use a current transformer with one of the 220 lines passing trough the hole in its center, no direct connection to the module is need . To trigger the Sensor Input of a 2450 I/OLinc. Using the current sensors dry contact output.

I have seen the CT-800 and SZC23-NO-AL-CH mentioned in such projects. They are self powered by the AC current passing through the wire it is sensing. I have tested both current sensors with an I/OLinc.

With a typical dryer the motor and controls are 120 volts. One of the 220V lines and Neutral. The heating element is 220V and uses both lines. If you sense the line only used by the hearer. The sensor would trigger On and Off as the dryers thermostat control the heat. The other line should sense would sense the motor running until the dryer goes off.
