Fast ON/OFF (aka double tap on/off) integration with HUB and API

Dimmer switches are capable of the double tap on and off. This sends a different message out of the switch called Fast ON and Fast OFF. If you are managing home automation with a PC and software, you can use these messages as triggers for events -separate from the regular on/off messages.

The HUB should be changed to process these actions as well. THis would allow switch users to trigger a scene from a regular dimmer switch - Like all lights on/off for when you are entering or leaving the house.

If the API is also changed, services like StringiFy and IFTTT could use the Fast ON/OFF messages to trigger automation flows.

Al insteon devices (not including sensors) can issue a fast on/fast off command. This isn't just a dimmer feature

While it would be nice for the hub to make use of that capability, since it wasn't designed for logic, that capability would exceed it ability.

I'm not sure why it would be so hard to do. Only the Hub firmware would need to change. It would have to differentiate the regular on/off messages from the FastON/OFF. That's easy, they are separate message comes in the spec. The other change would be to allow it to trigger any scene that it is a controller of (all of them). Since the Hub can trigger scenes via time, etc, this is not a far fetched change either.

Insteon doesn't mind people using 3rd party controllers for advanced stuff while they keep the hub for what it is. It allows them to focus on hardware which they excel at vs software which can be time consuming and expensive. They are good at making hardware. Software not so much.

Anything is possible but it's more work than simply writing a line of code. The app needs to be updated in a manner to ensure ease of use etc. Many people still have issues with the basic stuff. This flies in the face in what the hub was designed to be which is an entry level controller. Designed for simplicity and ease of use. Hence it's low cost vs 3rd party.
