Motion Sensor Questions

Just tried setting one of these up, and ran into some issues. Using Win8 Insteon app and the Windows Phone 8 app.

1) In either of the apps the Motion Sensor always shows Red-Motion Detected. I assume it should show something else after a while. Have it in a room we don't go in for testing. Have factory reset it twice, and re-set it up.

2) Is there some point to software control? The jumper is set for that, it came that way. I have added the device to the Win app (and it seems registered in the cloud, as the other app WP now sees it) The question is, whenever I make a change in settings in the software and save, it asks me to push and hold the settings button in the device, tap it, click next, tap button again, etc. What is the point of software control if you have to have physical access to the device, open it and push buttons inside? Or am I missing something?

3) I have motion alert and end of motion alert turned on. Should that send an alert, text, e-mail, somewhere when those events happen? What address/phone number would it use. Can you specify more than one? I have an e-mail and SMS identified but am not getting anything. Maybe because it is stuck in Motion Detected?

4) What does Managed Properties mean? It appears related to software control. Mine is on, as that seems to make the settings available.

2) Battery powered devices need to be woken up. Otherwise battery life is shortened.

3) Did you acknowledge the messages you received to authorize alerts? Did you inadvertently delete those messages?

2) Not sure what that means. If you are saying that having to have physical access to the Sensor to make Application based software changes is normal, fine. Say that. I would have imagined that a software interface that duplicates all the hardware settings is provided so that a Motion Sensor that is installed in a less than accessible location, wouldn't have to be taken down, opened up, physically tweaked and then re-installed.

3) Nope, didn't get any messages to authorize alerts. Did get a text when I changed the SMS # and responded to that. The e-mail and Phone # are in account settings. Is that where it is assumed alerts should go?

1) Still after 24 hours the software shows motion detected in an empty room. Does that mean it is broken, locked up, needs to be factory reset, again?

Yes, physical access to all battery powered devices is required when linking or changing settings. That's because battery powered devices sleep when not sending a command in order to conserve battery power. Such devices are capable of sending commands when woken, for example, by motion.

Unlike line powered devices, they do not normally receive commands. To do so would require that they use battery energy 24/7. Since battery power devices are not capable of receiving commands, they must be manually placed into linking mode.

Managed Properties allows access to some on the MS properties listed on the right.

BTW, the red circle was not present after I set some properties.
