    Infinity touch

Come on Insteon lets get on board with the "others"
Carrier/UTI has released api last year.
Lets take care of ALL customers please
Infinity touch is a great thermostat.

If it WiFi based you could switch to an ISY and use their network module. This would give control of a lot more brands than what the Insteon Hub has to offer.

So is Trane, Honeywell, Ecobee, Lux, Sensi Smart, Orbit and many more. everyone has their favorite. Oh, and there's a bunch of Z-Wave therrnostats, too.

Insteon is Insteon, not all the others. Do the others support Insteon?

The message here shouldn't be who is supporting what, but rather who wins the standardization wars. Home automation is on the cusp of exploding in the general marketplace. Along with this will come standardization of protocols and interfaces. As with many prior technologies, it won't be the best technology that wins (which I think is Insteon). It will be a combination of marketing, support, and right place/right time that wins, with the emphasis on the marketing and support. Unfortunately, baring a severely radical change in history and course, the maketing and support war won't be won by Insteon.

There will always be competing HA protocols. Some things are already standardized, such as light sockets, tires, faucet spacing, but you can't use GM transmissions on BMW, nor a GE pump on a Mayfair dishwasher.

Siri, Google Home and Amazon Echo are competitors. I don't see Apple opening up their propriety products to other brands. OK, you can get a non-brand case for an iPhone

Most companies that look to support 3rd party will support those will the greatest install base. That way they can achieve the best bang for their buck.
If each manufacturer were to try and support everything out there, they would go broke trying to keep up.

Technically Wifi would be the protocol which is standardized. However, each company has its own web-services that a company would need to code for.

This is what Apple Home Kit, AllJoyn, etc were all supposed to do for the general public. It was to bring some kind of semblance of Plug & Play and standards for others to follow with a eye toward open integration for all.

Sadly, none of these so called open standards have taken off never mind gained traction where the public is the clear winner. I suspect its going to be another 5~8 years before we see even a modest adoption of any of these so called *Standards*. There are no less than four competing *Open Standards* from some of the largest companies in the world pushing: Thread, Weave, AllJoyn, Samsungs what ever they call it etc.

Given the endless so called IoT threats and lack luster embedded security which many products are based on. You will see the U.S. Government in a round about way forcing all of the companies to adopt basic frame work with respect to security etc. Just this area will push forward the essentials for a *Standard* in terms of security not so much in compatibility though.

Carrier has to be installed in alot of homes why not support these thermostats.Nest is worthless to carrier systems. Carrier infinity systems are more advanced anyway imho.

Actually it is a big deal. It takes time to code. Especially when each company's API will have different requirements. The hub is an 80 dollar device geared towards Insteon customers. As such, they would develop their product for their customer base.

Nest is a highly popular thermostat. One that many of insteon customers were asking for

Seeing that only 1 person is asking for a particular thermostat, I'd suspect there is not much incentive to take the time for it. Time is money.

2 things: The first is that there are probably many more echos in homes than insteon hub's meaning many more requests.

The second thing is Carrier would have added support for the echo rather than Amazon adding carrier.
