I would like to see future versions of the KPL support multi color LED's for each key. This would allow the end user to assign a color to indicate some sort of meaning to them via a controller. This would be coupled with a flashing support which the HA controller could adjust the frequency of the flash rate. Some manufactures use the primary RBG color to blend and make various colors in the spectrum so this might be something more powerful when implementing the LED feature.

I've been using the Color Change Kit. Although not as elegant as tricolor LEDs, it probably keeps both the complexity and cost of the KPL down. And the diffusers look good, too
