One product that's available for Z-wave systems is a tilt sensor. I tend to think it's a better solution for most garage doors, as it's not always easy (or in some cases possible) to mount and open/close or other magnetic sensor on a garage door and frame, depending on the construction. I'm using a Z-Wave tilt sensor on one of my garage bays, and it's far more reliable in reporting status, whereas the magnetic sensor occasionally reports a false positive, no matter where I've tried placing the sensor on the door—side, top, or base.
