Light turning on and off repeatedly

I have a motion sensor in my office that is set on night only mode. What I am trying to do, is when it senses me coming into the room in the evening, it turns on a desk lamp attached to a outlet module. That portion is working fine. This allows me to walk over to a light switch and turn on an overhead light. Once the overhead light is on, I no longer need the desk lamp on. The lamp will turn off in a few seconds as it is supposed to, however here is where I am having a problem.

I tried to set up the sensor such that, once the overhead light is on, the motion sensor 'sees' the amount of light in the room and should no longer turn the desk lamp on. However, it will sit there and cycle several times, turning the desk lamp on and off. Eventually, it will quit and leave the light off.

How do I stop this 'cycling' of the desk lamp.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Change the light level needed to turn the light on. It's most likely set to respond right at the level of the overhead light, but it takes a few minutes to accustom itself to that specific light level.

The sensitivity to light can also be set. Changing that should help.
