Leak Sensors: To leave wrapped? or Unwrap?

I feel like this is a dumb question.

But with the leak sensors, they come packaged with a plastic wrapper. On any other device, you would unwrap that off the device. But, does this serve any specific purpose on these leak sensors? Should they be left on?

I think it shouldn't matter as you'd have to take them off anyway to change the batter (or to do a reset). And, it doesn't make the device waterproof or anything; and as soon as it gets wet, it sends it's on signal, so it doesn't matter if it gets soaked after that.

    Your thoughts?

If the two exterior terminals are wrapped, then the sensor won't work.
